A message from Rita J. King to all members of Understanding Islam through Virtual Worlds on Dancing Ink Productions!
Our group member Jonathan Orr is leaving today for a ten-day trip to Turkey, during which time he will be doing research in the field and documenting the cultural experience for the Understanding Islam through Virtual Worlds project. We look forward to exhibiting his work in a three-dimensional aerial labyrinth on our DIP island in Second Life, where the metaverse office of the Orr Institute is located.
Upon his return he will share his experiences with this group. Please feel free in the meantime to suggest topics he should explore, as well as to share your own experiences and thoughts on Turkey's current climate at a political and cultural crossroads. Turkey, which shares borders with both Iraq and Europe, is a critical area of study for the Understanding Islam through Virtual Worlds project. The people of Turkey are 99 percent Muslim but currently have a secular government, which adds another layer of interest. We welcome your thoughts and ideas.
